Dear CLC Members – 

You are invited to a Special Meeting of Members on Sunday, April 27 @ 1PM EST. This meeting will be held online. You can register to attend this meeting by filling out this registration form.

If you are unable to vote in person, you can choose to either assign a proxy vote to a board member, or vote by email. If you want to vote by email, the deadline to do so is April 24, 2025 and you will need to vote using the email address currently on file with the CLC. If you are unsure that we have your updated e-mail address, please clarify with August (generalmanager@composition.org) before voting.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, the registration form will give you alternatives to ensure that your voice is heard. 

Only Professional and Emeritus Members are eligible to vote on these proposed changes.

The proposed changes are as follows:

Section 1.01 – Definitions – ORIGINAL

“Composer” shall mean a person normally resident in Canada, who has composed one or

more major works of music, and such work or works or one of them has been played in

public by a musician or musicians recognized in the musical profession.

Section 1.01 – Definitions – REVISION

“Composer” shall mean a person who is a Canadian citizen or legal resident, living in Canada or abroad, who has composed one or more works of music that have been presented publicly.

Section 2.01 (a. 1) – Definition of Membership – ORIGINAL

Professional Membership shall be available only to individuals who are Composers of

concert music and sound art, who have applied in writing to the National Council and have

been accepted by the National Council, provided that the National Council shall have an

absolute right to refuse membership to any individual in their discretion.

Section 2.01 (a, 1) – Definition of Membership – REVISION. 

Professional Membership shall be available to individuals who are Composers, who have applied in writing to the National Council and been accepted by the National Council. The National Council shall have the right to refuse membership to any individual at their discretion.

The Composer will have received at least three (3) professionally-presented public

performances, each by a different performer, ensemble and/or organization.

Section 2.01 (a, 2) – Definition of Membership – REVISION

The Composer will have received at least three (3) public presentations of their work, each by a different performer, ensemble, or organization/venue.
