The International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) Canadian Section is thrilled to announce that Amy Brandon’s string quartet Lysis has been selected for inclusion in the 2024 World New Music Days in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.
Written in 2022, Lysis was commissioned by the JACK Quartet as part of the JACK Studio Artists program. It received its premiere in New York City in January of 2023.
“The ISCM Canadian Section is extremely pleased that Amy Brandon’s Lysis has been chosen to represent Canada on the international stage in Tórshavn. The work was unanimously praised by this year’s Canadian Section jury, described as “imaginative and extremely personal” and “powerful and exquisite.” Congratulations to Amy on her wonderful piece, and for this international recognition!”
– Bekah Simms, vice president, ISCM Canadian Section
We would also like to congratulate two other Canadian composers whose individual submissions have been selected for the festival: Jordan Nobles’ Chiaroscuro has been chosen for the Chamber Ensemble category, and CLC board member and ISCM Canadian Section Vice President Bekah Simms’ Jubilant Phantoms has been chosen for the Electronic Music with Fixed Media category.
Congratulations to Amy, Bekah, and Jordan!
