The 2023-24 AGM in-person meeting was a great success! In addition to the annual general meeting, the CLC council and staff spent the weekend planning and envisioning strategies for the CLC. We also attended a workshop with Paolo Griffin of Xenia Concerts on adaptive concert design.
After a 3 year pause, it was delightful to meet with councillors in Montréal’s historic Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, generously hosted by Jeunesses Musicales. They say great minds think alike, and it was clear from the beginning of our AGM weekend that councillors were united in their visions to adapt and improve the CLC’s mandates for the future. The pandemic was not kind to the performing arts, and as costs of living continue to grow in Canada, it becomes even more imperative that we grow, adapt and respond in kindness to the challenges we face as artists. It is also necessary to develop resilience and cooperation as we work with Canada’s governing agencies and organizations to have our voices heard. An artistic community is like a garden- leave it alone, and it will grow and bloom quite naturally. But with some care, nourishment and upkeep, it can become a thing of great beauty and accomplishment. At the CLC, our goal is to take care of this garden of creativity. In solidarity, join us as we invest in the future of Canada’s music-makers. – Tyler Versluis, President
