There has been a change at the Canadian League of Composers, we have bid a fond farewell to Elisha Denburg as he moves on from the role of General Manager, but are happy to welcome Kathryn Knowles in to the role of GM.
In February, Elisha Denburg, who served as our General Manager for the last four and a half years, decided to move
on from the CLC. Elisha has been an integral part of the CLC and over his time as General Manager has put in many hours writing grants, preparing for and attending meetings, and running the day to day operations of the CLC.
He was a leading force at ensuring the success of the PIVOT mentorship program, not only in terms of coordinating the program but securing the needed funding from FACTOR and the Azrieli Foundation.
I have always been impressed with his commitment to letting people know about the CLC and its mission. Not to mention the amount of help and support he gave for the ISCM World New Music Days in Vancouver earlier this year.
Elisha was never shy to chase after a councilor (or President!) who was late with a report and he always managed to brighten the day with a quick remark or a well-placed pun.
Mid February, the members of the Executive jumped into action and put together a hiring process to find a replacement. Ian Crutchley, Gayle Young, Stacey Brown, and myself worked quickly to put out a job posting. Along with the assistance of Cecilia Livingston, Christopher Mayo, and Elisha Denburg we were able to narrow the search down to the top applicant: Kathryn Knowles.
Kathryn has a Bachelor of Music from Queen’s University and went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Business and a Master of International Business at Queen’s University and ESCP Europe, France. Kathryn is a composer, cellist, and writer and is currently finishing her Master in Music Composition at the University of Toronto. She has experience working with a variety of arts organizations including Sistema New Brunswick, Sistema Toronto, and the Orpheus Choir of Toronto.
We are all very excited to have Kathryn join the CLC in the role of General Manager.
Please join use in wishing Elisha all the best in his future endeavours and in welcoming Kathryn Knowles as our new General Manager.
Sincerely,
Christopher Reiche Boucher
President of the Canadian League of Composers.
