What is the World New Music Days Festival (WNMD)?

This festival is organized by one of the national sections in a different country every year. The international ISCM Executive Committee ensure that certain rules are respected. Approval for the planned festivals is voted on three years in advance by the ISCM General Assembly, based on the festival project and its budget. One of the important ‘rules’ to be followed is that the festival organizers are obligated to select for performance during the festival at least one composition/installation/sound art/other musical project submitted by the representatives of each national section. Each section can present a maximum of 6 such works (no more than 1 work per composer) for consideration. The festival can then decide to select more than 1 work from these so-called ‘national submissions’ for performance, but this rule ensures that each and every country will be represented at each occurrence of the WNMD.
